Hampton Court Palace is renowned for its traditional and historic architecture and art, in evidence throughout the famous Tudor and Baroque palace and gardens.

For three weeks from mid-September 2005, however, Artists Nicole Mollett and Jeanine Woollard will introduce a fresh contemporary take on King William III’s apartments and gardens with a series of imaginative sculptures discretely installed to surprise visitors in and around the palace.

Artists Nicole Mollett and Jeanine Woollard further explain about the project by saying “We have responded to the decadence of the King’s Apartments to produce a series of sculptures that play with the notions of extravagance, and exclusivity, ideas that occur frequently in a Palace environment. Historically there were strict ‘rules’ to the order of things everywhere at Hampton Court Palace. Although disguised as existing furnishing, the sculptural objects have a life of their own and tilt the rules of this order, creating small pockets of chaos and sensuality. ‘Fit for a King’ is an intervention into, and celebration of the Palace’s elaborate and magnificent past.”
